Karat vs Carat

The terms "carat" and "karat" are often confused, but they refer to different things:

1. Carat (ct):

   • Used for gemstones and diamonds.

   • It is a unit of weight. One carat is equal to 200 milligrams (0.2 grams).

   • The more carats a gemstone or diamond has, the larger (and often more expensive) it is.

2. Karat (kt or K):

   • Used for gold purity.

   • It measures the purity of gold, with 24 karats being pure gold. For example, 18K gold is 75% gold and 25% other metals.

In summary, carat measures the weight of gemstones, and karat measures the purity of gold.
